I am working in a project focused on development of a water quality index with diatoms for rivers under the influence of oil production activities in Colombia. The goal is to generate the index based on the tolerance knowledge of species under different environmental conditions in the main basins of the country. I have the opportunity to work identifying the associated diatom flora from different regions of the country. This has allowed me to see the diversity linked to tropical ecosystems. There are limitations such as the lack of knowledge and diversification when working with tropical diatoms. These constraints have an effect on research development, however they are stimulus that drive me to continue in the knowledge of the diatoms and the factors influencing their distribution.
