A lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth’s eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature. - Henry David Thoreau
My first encounter with diatoms occurred as a M.S. student at the University of Minnesota Duluth where I utilized diatoms as indicators in a paleolimnological study of the St. Louis River estuary of Minnesota. Since graduating in 2016 I've continued to work in Dr. Euan Reavie's lab at the Natural Resources Research Institute where I spend most of my time evaluating the Laurentian Great Lakes phytoplankton community. My research interests include Great Lakes algae taxonomy and paleolimnology.
