The Iowa Lakeside Laboratory course was my first in-depth exposure to diatoms. I will be working on my MS in Biology starting in August 2017, with Professor E. Gaiser at Florida International University. While earning my BS in Biology at the University of Florida, I learned about a wide variety of ecological systems and processes, and the impacts human activities on various ecosystems. My goal for my MS thesis is to improve our understanding of how human activity effects wetlands, using diatoms as an indicator for whole-ecosystem health.
