My introduction to diatoms was made possible by Dr. Hunter Carrick who provided me with a great opportunity to learn about them and practice my SEM skills. I was fascinated by the SEM and imaging diatoms opened a world that I was largely unfamiliar with. I am currently helping to image and document diatoms collected from the Great Lakes, with the help of Central Michigan University’s microscopy resources and instructors.
