I am a Research Scientist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. In my work I use algae for bioassessment of past and present water quality, to inform policy development, and to set management and restoration goals. I have analyzed Wisconsin’s diatom samples for the US EPA’s National Aquatic Resource Surveys since the first National Lakes Assessment in 2007, as well as present-day and paleolimnological diatom samples for lakes, rivers, and wetlands in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota. I enjoy working with diatoms because every slide is a new adventure and I never know what I am going to see.

Diatoms of North America relies on the financial support of our user community. We aim to build our technical content by engaging diatomists at all levels and training the next generation. We need you to reach our 2025 fundraising goal of $25,000.
