“Few objects are more beautiful than minutes siliceous cases of diatomaceae: were these created that might be examined and admired under the higher power of microscopes.” – Charles Darwin
I got interested in diatoms during my masters program at the University of Santo Tomas, where I studied its physiology, growth dynamics and lipid production of my model diatom species Nitzschia palea. My main research focused is on: Applied Phycology; Plankton Ecology and Limnology; Diatom Plasticity, Taxonomy and Phylogeny. Hoping in the future I can contribute to Philippine Diatoms as one of my dream research projects.
But as of now I'm focusing on these beautiful hidden that is less appreciated by the world to see called diatoms.
