I study the effects of anthropogenic contaminants on freshwater ecosystems. I started studying diatoms in the summer of 2017 at the Ecology and Systematics of Diatoms course at Iowa Lakeside Lab. I am excited to discover how diatoms respond to the introduction of human contaminants such as pharmaceuticals. I hope to use diatoms as indicators of pharmaceutical effects in the aquatic environment by looking at changes in community composition, abundance and morphology. I am currently working to complete my PhD at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, with some research also conducted at the Cary Institute in Millbrook, New York.
