I am currently enrolled as a non-traditional undergraduate student in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology program at the University of Colorado, Boulder. My fascination with radiozoa, and their tangled taxonomy, eventually led me to the diatom laboratory at INSTAAR. There, under the patient direction of Dr. Sarah Spaulding, I study the Diploneis genus with a focus on taxonomic accuracy and consistency. In the future, I hope to explore the value of single-cell transcriptomics as a means to refine the morphological classification of non-culturable siliceous microorganisms.

Diatoms of North America relies on the financial support of our user community. We aim to build our technical content by engaging diatomists at all levels and training the next generation. We need you to reach our 2025 fundraising goal of $25,000.
