May 19, 2020 - Sinking of Cymatopleura
From 2011 to 2020, the genus Cymatopleura was recognized on Diatoms of North America. Based on a molecular phylogeny, Ruck et al. (2016) demonstrated that Cymatopleura is nested within the Surirella lineage. Therefore, in order to maintain a classification that reflects monophyletic groups, Cymatopleura was subsumed into Surirella. We are now in the process of effecting the transfer of Cymatopleura species to Surirella. - S. Spaulding
