Basionym

A basionym is the previous taxon name of a new combination or name at new rank. For example, Navicula mutica is the basionym of Luticola mutica because N. mutica was transferred to a new rank (genus Luticola). By contrast, Nupela frezelli is not a basionym because no later name is based on it.
