Cocconeis neodiminuta guide
  1. Central area small (raphe valve)
  2. Axial area wide (rapheless valve)
  3. Stria composed of 2-5 areolae (rapheless valve)

The raphe valve has a small, circular central area and a narrow axial area. The rapheless valve has a relatively wide, lanceolate axial area. Each stria is composed of 2-5 (but typically 3) large, transversely elongated areolae.
