Compare

The cells of Cylindrotheca closterium are lanceolate, with long, thin, flexible apices. The valves are not twisted. Cylindrotheca closterium is primarily a marine taxon.

While Nitzschia acicularis and N. draveillensis are also narrow and elongate, the valves are not twisted.
