Cymbopleura apiculata has broadly elliptic valves that are greater than 50 µm long. The valve length-to-width ratio ranges from 2.9-3.3. The apices are pointed, also termed apiculate, and the proximal raphe ends are shaped like crochet hooks, or crosiers.
