Valves of C. incerta are distinctly dorsiventral with almost flat ventral margins. Cymbopleura metzeltinii has rhombic-lanceolate valves that are barely dorsiventral. Cymbopleura incertiformis has barely dorsiventral valves and a narrower axial area. Cymbopleura subaequalis has broad protracted apices that are obtusely rounded.
