Diploneis calcilacustris is similar in size, but the longitudinal canals are more narrow and striae are finer (numbering 11-13 in 10 µm). Diploneis cantonatii has lower number of striae (11–12 in 10 μm). Diploneis virginiana has smaller valves and higher number of striae (18 in 10 µm).
