Diploneis puellafallax is biseriate, but the valves are larger and the central area is elliptic. Diploneis modicahassiaca is small, but differs in its length–to–breadth ratio (2.4–2.7) and finer stria density. Furthermore, to date D. modicahassiaca is known only from Germany.
