Encyonopsis montana has rhombic-lanceolate valves and higher stria density. Other large species of Kurtkrammeria (K. lacusglacialis, K. neoamphioxys, K. treinishii) have an isolated stigma in the central area. Species of Encyonema (e.g., E. hebridicum) have valves that are clearly dorsiventral and asymmetric with respect to the apical axis.
