Epithemia argus lacks protracted and reflexed ends, and the dorsal margin is less convex. Epithemia turgida has a higher costa density and the proximal raphe ends are closer to the ventral margin. Epithemia adnata also has proximal raphe ends that are closer to the ventral margin. Differentiating these species in girdle view is difficult in LM.
