Eunotia areniverma belongs to the E. monodon species complex. Within this group, species share broadly rounded ends and a dorsal margin that becomes more sloped with a more pronounced arch with smaller valves. Eunotia areniverma is most similar to E. monodontiforma and E. major and differs by the shape of apices. Both E. major and E. monodontiforma have apices that are more "set off" from the rest of the valve than those of E. areniverma.
