Eunotia exigua valves have a more concave ventral margin, and are more distinctly constricted near the apices than E. enishna and E. cataractarum. Eunotia exigua valves are also broader than E. enischna. The shoulders of E. exigua are more steeply sloped than the more gradual shoulder slopes of E. cataractarum. The dorsal margin of E. exigua is not distinctly straight as in E. orthohedra. Valves of E. exigua do not have parallel margins as in E. tenella, and the striae of E. exigua are more dense than in E. tenella. The dorsal margin of E. exigua valves is slightly flattened and is less convex relative to the ventral margin in contrast with the dorsal margin of E. meisteri, which is more or less more rounded and is more strongly convex relative to the ventral margin.
