Eunotia panda has similarly arcuate valves with parallel valve margins, but has slightly dorsally reflexed ends, lower stria density (14.5–17 μm), and a greater valve width. Small specimens of E. panda can be easily confused with E. mucophila. Eunotia bilunaris, E. naegelii and E. juettnerae possess arcuate valves, which, however, gradually taper from the valve center toward the apices, and are much more silicified. Valves of both E. billunaris and the European species E. juettnerae have a greater width, and more distinct, longer distal raphe ends. Valves of E. cantonatii, so far observed only in Europe, have parallel margins, but are generally larger with clearly tapered ends and a single apical hollow protrusion (sometimes visible in LM).
