Asterionella formora and A. ralfsii var. americana are heteropolar. Distrionella incognita has distinct costae. Eunotia croatana has less capitate apices with more dense striae (35-37 in 10 µm, Siver et al. 2006). Eunotia asterionelloides has slightly broader valves, 2.0-2.9 µm, and a lower stria density of 16-21 in 10 µm (Wetzel et al. 2010). Eunotia loboi and E. gomesii have bluntly rounded ends and lower stria density, occurring 18-21 and 17-20 in 10 µm, respectively (Wetzel et al. 2010).
