Eupodiscus radiatus can be distinguished from Coscinodiscus radiatus by the presence of the prominent ocelli near the valve margin. Aulacodiscus species have similar prominent marginal processes, but also a conspicuous hyaline central area that is lacking in Eupodiscus radiatus. Actinocyclus species appear superficially similar to Eupodiscus radiatus due to large rimoportulae at the mantle edge, but valves are divided in radial sections and ocelli are absent.
