Frustulia capitata possesses longitudinal ribs while F. creuzburgensis lacks them. The apices of F. latita and F. soror are only slightly rostrate, rather than capitate or subcapitate. Frustulia latita also has a lower stria density (30-32 in 10 µm at the center). The valve shape of F. weinholdii is nearly linear-elliptic and the striae are less dense (30-33 in 10 µm at the center) than those in F. capitata. In addition, F. weinholdii has longitudinal ribs that are incomplete on both sides of the valve.
