Frustulia rexii has striae that circumradiate the apices, while such striae are absent in F. krammeri. The very robust distal longitudinal ribs and porte-crayon structure in F. rexii are not present in F. inculta and F. krammeri. In addition, F. inculta lacks the group of poroids in the central area. F. rexii has much less noticeably undulate margins and protracted apices than F. quadrisinuata. F. rexii has valves that are generally more robust than those of F. saxonica, with more broadly rounded apices, thicker longitudinal ribs, and a larger porte-crayon.
