Compare

Karayevia nitidiformis should be compared closely with K. amoena. This (samples from high elevation lakes in Wyoming) is the first verified record of K. nitidiformis in the US. Other records should be examined closely, as this species is often confused with K. amoena. The axial area on the rapheless valve of K. nitidiformis is more narrow than K. amoena. While the striae on the raphe valves of K. amoena are interrupted by a thin longitudinal line, such a line is absent in K. nitidiformis.
