Encyonopsis neoamphioxys has moderately dorsiventral valves with less strongly arched ventral margins. Encyonopsis subspicula has narrower valves (5.8-8.7µm) and a higher stria density (16-20 in 10 µm). Encyonopsis treinishii has sinuous, rather than straight, striae near the valve center. The tropical species E. spicula and E. stoermeri have smaller valves and lower stria densities (13-15 and 10-13 in 10 µm, respectively).
