Compare

Valves of C. comensis are smaller, with a less regular radiate pattern in the central area. Valves of C. comta are nearly flat, rather than radially wrinkled, and the marginal striae occupy more than half of the valve radius. Cyclotella ocellata, C. polymorpha and Lindavia rossii have different patterns of ornamentation in the central area.
