Navicula cari has a larger, transversely rectangular central area. Valves of N. seibigiana have protracted apices. Navicula microdigitoradiata is larger with a higher stria density. The relatively coarse, widely-spaced striae and fine areolae give a superficial resemblance to some species of Pinnularia.
