Navicula duerrenbergiana has weakly silicified frustules that are easy to overlook in strewn mounts. Valves are narrow linear-lanceolate with pointed apices. The striae are finely lineate and weakly radiate throughout. The proximal raphe ends are very close and not expanded. Central area is absent.
