Compare

Navicula galloae has wider valves with more rounded apices and more widely spaced areolae in the striae than N. radiosa. The central area of N. galloae is rounded and asymmetric and the hooks at the proximal raphe ends are each bisected by a tongue of silica. The central area of N. radiosa is rhombic and the hooks at the proximal raphe ends are simple.
