Navicula sovereignii has broadly rounded apices and a round central area. Navicula sovereignii also has bulbous proximal raphe ends and vermiform markings in the axial and central areas, which are lacking in N. harmoniae. Navicula lundii is smaller with weakly protracted apices, an asymmetric central area, and striae that are weakly convergent at the apices.
