Navicula aurora has a larger rectangular central area and large triangular proximal raphe ends. Navicula oblonga has linear valves, undifferentiated proximal raphe ends, bent terminal striae, and much finer areolae. Navicula sovereignii has a round central area, worm-like markings on the axial and central areas, finer areolae, and proximal raphe ends shaped like hammer heads.
