Navicula viridulacalcis subsp. neomundana differs from N. viridula by the linear valves with distinctly wedge-shaped apices. N. slesvicensis has a symmetrical central nodule, straight proximal raphe ends, and lanceolate valve shape. N. rostellata is smaller and has higher striae density. The nominate variety N. viridulacalcis subsp. viridulacalcis has more narrow valves with less abruptly cuneate apices, but its occurrence in North America has not been confirmed.
