Pinnularia cardinaliculus guide
  1. Valve with nearly parallel margins
  2. Apices cuneate
  3. Axial area 1/3 of valve width
  4. Central area rhombic to rounded
  5. Striae slightly radiate in valve center, slightly convergent at apices

Valves are linear, with nearly parallel margins. The apices are cuneate and slightly wider than the rest of the valve. The axial area is linear, approximately 1/3 of the valve width. The central area is rhombic or rounded with a transverse fascia, often with variously shaped markings. The raphe is lateral with central pores that bend toward the secondary side. Striae are slightly radiate near the valve center, becoming slightly convergent at the apices.
