Pinnularia sudetica has hooked distal raphe ends. Pinnularia stomatophora has a distinct central area and rostrate apices. Pinnularia suchlandtii and P. microstauron have a central fascia and hooked distal raphe ends. Pinnularia tumescens has narrow valves, tumid margins, and broadly rounded apices.
