Compare

Planothidium rostratum has elliptic valves, with rostrate apices and a higher stria density (Cantonati et al. 2017). Planothidium potapovae, P gallicum and other species in the "P. rostratum" species complex have rostrate apices. Planothidium reichardtii is similar in valve size and outline, but lacks a cavum.
