Psammothidium acidoclinatum and P. daonense have more narrow striae and a higher stria density. Platessa rupestris has more lanceolate valves, and the raphe valve has a wider axial area and wider central area. Platessa montana has rhomboid-elliptic valves and a higher stria density. Rapheless valves of P. hustedtii and Achnanthes lutheri can easily be confused, but A. lutheri is distinguished by higher stria density on the raphe valve.
