Psammothidium lacustre is similar to P. helveticum, which also has long terminal raphe fissures turned in opposite directions and a rounded central area on rapheless valve. In comparison to P. helveticum, P. lacustre has larger valves with more acute apices, a smaller central area on the raphe valve and a wider central area on the rapheless valve.
