Sellaphora javanica is larger, more elongate, and has a broader central area.

Sellaphora japonica has rostrate apices in the size range.

Sellaphora digna is similar in valve outline, but has a larger size range and nearly rectangular central area.

Sellaphora glomus was transferred from Navicula (Gluschenko et al. 2023) and is also shown in Krammer and Lange-Bertalot (1989, Fig. 71, 39) and is stated to have a greater stria density (30-32 striae in 10 µm).
