Sellaphora saugerresii has coarser striae, a more symmetric central area and generally wider valves than S. atomoides. Sellaphora nigri has finer, uniseriate striae and a smaller central area. Sellaphora seminulum has linear-lanceolate to broadly lanceolate valves, inflated in the center, with protracted, broadly rounded and slightly rostrate ends. Valves of S. crassulexigua are linear-elliptic to linear-lanceolate with radiate, always uniseriate striae.
