Compare

Stauroneis bryocola has very fine and irregularly spaced areolae, but the valves are narrow, lanceolate and the apices are more gradually attenuated. Stauroneis anceps, with which S. siberica was previously associated as a variety, has coarser and more widely spaced striae and coarser, more evenly spaced areolae.
