Stauroneis submarginalis has broadly lanceolate valves, 140 to 186 µm long, with slightly protracted and broadly rounded apices. A distinct longitudinal line, visible in LM, runs the length of the valve 2-3 µm inside the valve margins. Proximal raphe ends are curved.
