Compare

Staurosirella leptostauron has a similar appearance, but valves are much wider and cruciform in shape and striae are wider than costae. Staurosirella leptostauron var. dubia is also similar in appearance, but valves are lanceolate in shape, striae are narrower than costae, and spines are reduced with two per costae.
