The striae of C. distinguenda are narrow near the central area, while the striae of Stephanocyclus gamma are broad. In addition, two shadow lines are visible in S. gamma, while only one is visible in C. distinguenda.
Stephanocyclus meneghiniana has multiseriate striae composed of very fine areolae that are not easily resolved in LM. The central area of is either without ornamentation or with a radially striated pattern. Unlike S. gamma, S meneghiniana may have marginal spines.
