Stephanodicsus hantzschii f. tenuis has higher areola density, wavy fascicles and lightly silicified valves. Stephanodiscus binderanus is smaller in diameter with higher fascicle and areola densities. Stephanodiscus parvus is smaller in diameter, has a higher fascicle density and central fultoportula is present. Cyclostephanos invisitatus has a higher fascicle density and branching costae.
