Tetracyclus hinziae is easily confused with Odontidium mesodon, especially at the smaller end of the size range. Tetracyclus hinziae has septa, while O. mesodon does not. In addition, T. hinziae is more heavily silicified and the ends are more apiculate than in O. mesodon. Girdle bands of T. hinziae are more linear than convex as in O. mesodon. Tetracyclus glans has a large, distinct central inflation.
