Psammothidium ventralis has rostrate apices, striae are more distinct, and the central area is larger. This taxon is also reported from colder regions.
Sellaphora guyanensis is similar in valve shape, however, striae are much coarser at 21-24 in 10 µm, and this taxon is only known (to date) from Guyana, South America.
