Live material or preserved cells are necessary to identify this taxon. Cells have multiple small plastids confined to the main body of the cell (not located within setae). Spines (setae) are long (> 150 microns). Valves are rectangular in girdle view and nearly circular in valve view. Distinguishing this taxon requires examination of the resting spores.
