  1. Valves <8 µm wide
  2. Apices narrow
  3. Striae >12 in 10 µm

Valves are small and less than 8 µm wide. The apices are narrow, and weakly protracted. Striae number more than 12 in 10 µm at the valve center. Areolae are very fine and difficult to resolve in LM. Stigmata are absent.
